before i forget- jacques nolot
This third film by writer-director Jacques Nolot (better known here as an actor, particularly for his role in François Ozon’s Under the Sand) forms the final part of a trilogy of sorts, each of which deals with sexual identity, memory and loss (L’Arriere Pays and Porn Theatre/Glowing Eyes being parts one and two). Pierre, a former ‘escort’ now in his late 50s, finds himself trapped by his past and struggling to cope with the loneliness at the core of his life. This is worsened by the physical deterioration wreaked by ageing and by his long term HIV-positive status. Struggling to shake off writer’s block, he’s forced to resist the impulse to cut himself off, until he’s pulled out of his solitude by the death of his old friend>>.
